What are home buyers looking for in 2017? Our in-house corporate designer sheds some light on what will be hot, hot, hot in the coming year.
2017 homes will be all about the kitchen. Home buyers will go all out and splurge on double islands, opting for a central kitchen island to take care of their food prep and baking needs, while bringing in a second island to connect their living room to the kitchen for their eating and entertaining needs.

They will also be looking to create some visual stimulation in their kitchens by mixing and matching opposite colors, sizes and textures. Pairing light-colored kitchen cabinets with dark, distressed flooring and choosing options like rustic stackstone with metal inserts over the kitchen’s cooktop to help liven up a traditional white subway tile backsplash will become second nature.
Sherwin Williams recently announced Poised Taupe, SW6039, as its color of the year.
From kitchens and living rooms to bathrooms and bedrooms, color will dominate 2017. More home buyers will step out of their comfort zone and go for dramatic colors that pop. This includes Poised Taupe, SW6039, which Sherwin Williams recently announced as its color of the year. A nice balance of warm and cool, it’s the perfect backdrop for pinks, golds, blues, teals or whatever shade calls to you.

Home buyers will still want practical, not obscure, when it comes to their living space. They’ll lean toward first-floor master bedrooms and living rooms that are open to the kitchen. They’ll want easy-to-care-for flooring like laminate – people want to enjoy their homes, not spend all of their time maintaining them.
